Fall 2023 – Francophone Literatures (University of Toronto): This course offers an introduction to literatures and cultures of the Francophone world from the 1950s to the present. In examining fiction from Africa or the Caribbean, it will emphasize the linguistic, aesthetic and discursive specificities as represented by French-speaking authors from former colonies. More importantly, it will determine the ways in which writers from the Francophone world have developed distinctive cultural forms that challenge French canons and colonial thoughts in order to express shifting and complex identities. Among issues addressed are slavery, colonialism, representation, alienation and cultural nationalism which reveal the anxieties of minority groups in a global world.

Winter 2023 – Francophone Cinema from sub-Saharan Africa and the Caribbean (University of Toronto): This course studies films from across the spectrum of the Francophone world – West and Central Africa, the Maghreb, and the French Caribbean. Through these productions, we will examine the diversity of the French colonial empire as well as the different aesthetic, historical and cultural effects of colonialism and post-independence experience on various cinematic representations. The course will explore the possibilities of determining a specific film language as well as the limits of mainstream theories in understanding them.

Fall 2020 – Language Practice I (University of Toronto Scarborough): This course is designed to consolidate the language skills necessary for higher-level French courses through an action-oriented approach to language teaching and learning. Students will improve their communicative language competencies (listening, reading, speaking and writing) by engaging in task-based activities in real-world, contextual situations.

Winter 2017 – French Language II (University of Toronto): Intended for those who have some knowledge of French, this course is the first in a proficiency-sequenced series that provides students with the opportunity to become proficient, focused, autonomous French language learners. Adopting a principally actional approach to second language learning targeting Level A2 objectives of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR), the course’s main objective is to provide a communicative learning environment through activities based in real-world, everyday contexts.          

Winter 2016 – Intermediate French II (Simon Fraser University): This course is designed to improve listening and reading comprehension. Emphasis on accuracy in oral and written communication.                         

Fall 2015 – French Writing I (Simon Fraser University): This is a reading and writing course with emphasis on vocabulary and logical structure in written expression. 

Fall 2011 / Winter 2012 – Spoken and written French Language (University College London): Oral and written French courses for first, second, and final years.
